Welcome to another year of fantasy football. Drafts are finishing up around the country and the NFL season is slated to kickoff Thursday September 9th with the defending Super Bowl champions the New Orleans Saints taking on Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. After that the real fun begins with football on all day Sunday and a double header for Monday Night.
And the start to another fantasy football season means the start to my Keepers and Sleepers articles that are written every week to help you decide who to start and who to sit. Along with this advice you can now follow me on twitter @babybluemonkey for in game updates. If that’s not enough I went out and created my very own fantasy football website at www.babybluemonkey.com. I am a member in good standing for the Fantasy Sports Writers Association (FSWA) and also write tons of other articles at Helium and Associated Content.
But enough about me, we are here for football and let’s get down to it. Every week I will break down 5 keepers and 5 sleepers for both running backs (RBs) and wide receivers (WRs). For definition purposes a keeper is a guy you should be playing but might be having reservations about. A sleeper is a guy you have on the bench or on the waiver wire that you need to get into your active lineup for that week. So without further ado I give you the 2010 week 1 fantasy football RB keepers and sleepers:

An Overview on fantasy football terminology

Whether you are a journeyman that has been playing for 15 years or this is your first foray into the world of fantasy football, you are bound to come across a term that baffles you. It’s hard not as fantasy football has evolved from garage drafts to having its own show on Sunday morning ESPN. The growth is astonishing and a projected 30 million people will be playing fantasy football in 2010. Think about that for a minute. Explosion is the only way to define that.
Speaking of definitions. Here is a glossary of definitions for you to grasp the game better and understand what’s going on when someone mutters “I can’t believe that guy took my handcuff, MarShawn Lynch isn’t even on the ADP list. In fact www.babybluemonkey.com says Lynch is going to be a bust and not a deep sleeper, Oh well, guess I’ll grab Donald Brown instead.”
Take a second to thumb through the alphabetically organized 2010 fantasy football dictionary.

Auction Drafts – These drafts are gaining popularity where league members have a predefined cash amount for the draft, typically $100. The league then auctions off the players and the highest bidder wins that player. This format is gaining popularity because it gives everyone in the league a chance to own any player.
Average Draft Position (ADP) – Usually this list pops up around the beginning of June and is constantly updated on several fantasy football sites. ADP is where a certain player will be ranked over all the drafts that have taken place at one site or multiple sites. For example: NFFC’s ADP

The months have melted into weeks and soon the weeks will give way to days. These days will be painful as we countdown to Thursday September 9th when the Minnesota Vikings take on the defending NFL champs, the New Orleans Saints. That’s right, the 2010 fantasy football season is right around the corner! By now you should have your cheat sheets in order and your sleepers well thought out. Some of you have started drafting while others will be waiting till the end of August or later. To help you in your quest to win your office pool league, your big money league, or even a just for fun league I’ve created an essential Do’s and Don’ts list for you.
DON’T
- Manage your teams from work – This is very important. Companies are realizing many hours lost during the work week due to people managing their teams from work. Don’t do it, you’re being watched. Trust me I’m an IT guy and you can get away with it for a little bit but eventually someone is going to figure out why everyone at work is pinging www.babybluemonkey.com and then the site will be blocked or you will be reprimanded. It’s not worth it.
- Bite off more than you can chew – Some crazy people run 10, 20, or even 50 leagues in a season. That’s fine but make sure you can handle the load because each team will require a little quality time to make them competitive.
- Miss the games – You don’t have to watch every game but

The simple easy definition of Fantasy Football is: the simulation of a team of players you drafted using real-time stats. Like everything else in America, Fantasy Football requires practice in order to gain a competitive advantage. After a few years of playing in many different leagues (I had over 40+ individual leagues during the 2009 season) I’ve decided I have a few draft strategies that spell out success when you are trying to win. I’ve played exclusively draft and play leagues so I won’t be covering rotisserie style or emphasizing 12 team leagues as the majority I play are ten team leagues. No keeper hints and no I won’t tell you who to take in the 3rd round (at least not yet)…
1) Attend your draft – I can’t tell you the exact number of leagues where at least one person didn’t show up but I would guess around 90% of my 2009 leagues had at least one person missing. Sure you can fill out your draft order ahead of time but I’m a firm believer in watching how other people in your league stack up and draft. And the missing guy ended up taking Stephen Gostkowski in the 7-9th rounds. You may think this isn’t a big deal but those same people missed out on Thomas Jones, Cedric Benson, and Miles Austin to name a few.
2) Mock draft at least once prior to your real draft – Like I said before: practice makes perfect. This may seem like a stupid idea but in the
